Well, the title of this post says it all! I got a new job. I can't believe it. Here's the scoop.
Now I have a 100 mile commute as is, and to drive 500 miles a week to a job you can't stand really takes a toll on your life. One good thing is by the time you get home, you've pretty much chilled out, so none of the "bringing it home" deal.
I have been looking for a new job for almost 2 years now, and have been on a zillion interviews. No, really a zillion. I hadn't even gotten an offer, and most of these jobs I was QUITE interested in too. So a few weeks ago, I got a call back from a company that I applied to thru monster in April or something like that. I went to the interview all dressed in a black jacket nice shoes... Not the usual Target Linen pants :) The art director and I talked about things they do etc... she mentioned Flash and action scripting with database etc... which I have no idea about, my forte is Macromedia Director not Flash. Anyhoo I showed her my work, and then she took me on a brief tour and said, well I have more interviews to conduct and I might call you back for a 2nd interview. Well I thought that I'd never hear from them again. Last Thursday I got another phone call from them and scheduled a Tuesday AM interview, I met with a programmer and was told they were going to make me an offer. I almost died. I didn't think they liked me at all. So, anyway I figured the offer would be low since it's mostly a design job with very little back end work. The offer was for $5,500 more than I make now, and I save 100 miles a week for the commute (it's 80 miles instead of 100) Also it's in my FAVORITE AREA... downtown St. Pete. I tell ya, I couldn't be happier. I told my boss if she could match it and I didn't have to do anymore production art I'd stay. They wouldn't match... so I gave notice... I also talked to the lady at the NEW gig, and got $1,000 more. I've never negotiated in my life, either way I had nothing to loose.
I will miss the friends I've made in the nearly 4 years that I have worked at this company, but I'm pretty good about keeping in touch, so it's not like I'll never see or talk to these people again. Hell I still keep in touch with my old pal from Kindergarten.
So Aug 1 is my first day at new gig. I'm pretty excited.
That's about all that's been going on this week.... I'm having a social weekend, not sure I'm ready for that, but I'm throwing a bit of caution to the wind, and enjoying myself!
Take care everyone!
Lucy Jane
